Wild Food, Wild Medicine Practicum

October 17 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Wild edible plants and mushrooms provide nutritious, sustainable, gourmet food all year round. Many of them not only nourish the body but also aid digestion, support the nervous system, and encourage a healthy immune response.  Join conservation biologist/forager Sarah Foltz Jordan and herbalist Melissa Borer Hard for this classroom practicum designed to immerse you in the practice of finding nourishment and wellness in the landscape around you.  Come away with practical skills, fresh inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the wild pantry and medicine cabinet right outside your door.

WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

  • Tried & true methods for incorporating more wild plants & mushrooms into your diet
  • Introduction to medicine-making, including how to extract plant constituents in water, fats, vinegar, alcohol, honey, and more
  • Deep dive into 15 key species that we couldn’t live without
  • Guidance on conservation-minded foraging and harvesting with reciprocity
  • Hands-on demonstrations of culinary & medicinal projects
  • Interactive display of preserved food & medicine from our own pantries
  • Bring your own lunch– we’ll have time to eat, explore the displays & resources, and connect with each other
